Happy Birthday to an Influential Person!

Happy birthday to one of the most influential and famous writers ever: J.R.R Tolkien! Born January 3, 1892, and died September 3, 1892.

This scholar, philologist, and writer is most well known for his books ‘The Lord of the Rings’ and ‘The Hobbit.’ If only he could see what an influence his books have made, and how big they have become. As we all know, they even became movies ‘The Lord of the Rings (1,2,3)’ and ‘The Hobbit.’

Because of the new movie that came out recently (The Hobbit) and his birthday, I thought it would be appropriate to talk a little about his past and some of the amazing things he has done.

Tolkien lived with his father, a bank manager, in South Africa. When he was a child, he made up many languages, which probably had a big effect on his writings later on. But when Tolkien was four years old, his father died. His mother took him and his younger brother and moved to a village called Sarehole, in England. Rumor has it that the landscapes and Nordic mythology may have been an inspiration for the “Shire” and “Hobbits” in his books. At age twelve, his mother died. After that he was looked after by Father Francis Xavier Morgan. From there, Tolkien became a scholar at Kind Edward VI school. And in 1915, he got his B.A. in linguistics at Exeter College, Oxford. Then in 1918, he fought in World War I. Rumor also has it that the experience in the war helped him write about the dark side in his books. After the war, he got his M.A. in 1919. Then in 1920, he became a teacher at the University of Leeds. Through 1925-59, he became a Professor for two schools. It was in those times that he started writing his books. Although he has written many books, he will always be best known the books of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.

He was also a good friend of C.S. Lewis, sharing parts of his novels with him. At first he thought that he could not finish Lord of the Rings because of the complexity of the book. Creating the fantasy world, several different languages and letters was hard. It seemed at times too much. It is said that Lewis encouraged him to publish the books, so we may have never been able to read Lord of the Rings without C.S. Lewis’ help. Sadly, even though the books are extremely popular now, he did not get to enjoy the benefits from their sales before he died. His son, Christopher Tolkien, was able to publish some of his books. ‘The Lord of the Rings’ is the best selling fiction book of all time.

Whew! There are so many things that happened in his life, so much he accomplished, that it would take me a long time to write down all the amazing stories! He was such an inspiration to everyone. He had an unexplainable imagination that when we read his books we just find ourselves sitting there and wonder how he ever thought these things. What is especially amazing to me is that he taught himself languages at school, and also invented 14 different languages and alphabets!

I am a fan of his works, and I wish he was alive today so he could see how popular his writings have become. I hope that his books will stay around for a very long time.

Happy birthday to a most creative and imaginative person!

X-Men: Days of Future Past

*Warning, potential spoilers!*

After X-Men: First Class, many people are anticipating Marvel’s new sequel X-Men movie: Days of Future Past! This new X-Men movie is based on non other than the comic book: Days of Future Past.

x-men days of future past

Rumor has it that Ian Mckellen (Older Erik) and Patrick Stewart (Older Charles) will be reprising their roles as Magneto and Professor X. In X-Men: First Class, Hugh Jackman made an appearance, and it is said that Jackman will return as Wolverine in the new sequel, which may or may not have anything to do with the X-Men world. And who can forget the original cast of First Class? James McAvoy (Young Charles), Michael Fassbender (Young Erik) and Jennifer Lawrence (Raven) are returning!

Like I said above, the movie is based on a 80s comic book story: Days of Future Past. According to IMDB, it will be like the comic where the X-Men must travel in time to change a major historical event that could globally impact on man and mutant kind.

(Rumored storyline! Could change!) The storyline of the Marvel comic, Days of Future Past, is this: when the X-Men time-travel, the future is a nightmare, the world is rubble while all the mutants are held in concentration camps run by “Sentinel” robots. Wolverine, Storm, Colossus, Kitty, Rachel, Franklin and Magneto must save the mutants! So they send Kitty’s (could be someone else!) consciousness back in time to her younger body where she tries to stop the assassination of Senator Robert Kelly and Professor X. The assassination was believed to help the production of the Sentinels robots. The comic is known to be Marvel Comic’s’ best storylines of all time! Could this story be the plot for the new sequel?

According to IMDB, this storyline was selected because it would allow the filmmakers to reconcile the continuity dissonance between “X-Men: First Class” and the original “X-Men” series. The time travel also allowed the actors from the original series to appear once again.

Director Bryan Singer is most known for directing “Superman Returns” and “X2”. Bryan and  the writers (John Byrne and Matthew Vaughn) have the new X-Men movie due to be out on July 18, 2014! The genre will, of course, be fit into the action and adventure category. They should be filming in Montreal, Québec, Canada. Matthew Vaughn was supposed to return to direct this movie, but he decided to decline! Bryan Singer, then took his place. When Matthew Vaughn was going to direct, he was going to make the X:Men: Days of Future Past set in the 1970s. Whether the idea is the same now or not, no one knows.

Is it Kitty who will be sent back? Will the X-Men stop the assassination in time? And who are these Sentinel robots really? Comment down below what you think!

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey!

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Trailer

The first Hobbit movie will be coming out on December 14th this year! So, Tolkien fans, make sure you get your tickets early!

According the IMDB, this is a short story of the plot: A curious Hobbit, Bilbo Baggins, journeys to the Lonely Mountain with a vigorous group of Dwarfs to reclaim a treasure stolen from them by the dragon Smaug.

You read that right! A hobbit won’t be fighting Sauron, but instead a fierce dragon named Smaug. Smaug claims the treasure-filled mountain of Erebor, also known as the Lonely Mountain.

There will be three Hobbit movies. The first movie: An Unexpected Journey, will introduce all the main characters – Bilbo, Gandalf, and the dwarfs. The movie will be a detailed experience of their journey to the Lonely Mountain. The second movie: The Desolation of Smaug  (warning: this movie could be re-titled) will come out in 2013. This second movie will be about how The Dwarfs, Bilbo, and Gandalf escaped the misty mountains, but in the mean time, Bilbo has gained the one ring. From there, they continue to get the gold from the dragon, Smaug. Finally, the third movie: There and Back Again, is due to come out in 2014. There is little information about the third movie, but the short and rather vague plot is nevertheless exciting. The dwarfs, Bilbo, and Gandalf have made it to Smaug’s lair, but they might have troubles getting their gold and returning home safely. There is a rumor that there might be struggles between elves and men for the treasures in the mountain.

Some of the old Lord of the Rings characters will return! Good old Ian McKellen will return as Gandalf, and Elijah Wood will again be Frodo. Played by Andy Serkis, Gollum will also be back on the set. There will be a lot of new characters, to be specific, 13 dwarfs and young Bilbo Baggins. Bilbo Baggins will be played by Martin Freeman. He is probably most well-known for being “John” in the movie Love Actually. Ian Holm will come back as old Bilbo Baggins, it is rumored.

Since the dwarfs excite me the most,I did some research and found all 13!

The 13 Dwarves

The 13 dwarfs are:

Thorin Oakenshield: played by Richard Armitage

Fili: played by Dean O’Gorman

Kili: played by Aidan Turner

Bombur: played by Stephen Hunter

Bofur: played by James Nesbitt

Bifur: played by William Kircher

Balin: played by Ken Scott

Dwalin: played by Graham McTavish

Dori: played by Mark Hadlow

Nori: played by Jed Brophy

Ori: played by Adam Brown

Óin: played by John Callen

Gloin: played by Peter Hambleton

Whew! That was a lot! I talked to several Lord of the Rings fans; they, and a whole bunch of other fans, have already bought their tickets. So, if you want to watch this movie when it comes out, make sure you get your tickets now!

Thirteen dwarfs, one hobbit, and one wizard… how will this turn out? Will director Peter Jackson bring the same magic as in the Lord of the Rings Trilogy? How will Bilbo and the dwarfs get the treasure from the dragon?

Iron Man 3!

*Warning, may be some spoilers!*

Iron Man 3 Trailer

It seems to be that stunt men for Marvel love to tell us spoilers for the very much anticipated movies. Like James Grogan telling us special secrets for Thor: The Dark World, Andrew Lawden tells us some very juicy material for Iron Man 3!

According to IMDB, this is the plot: Tony Stark uses his ingenuity to fight those who destroyed his private world and soon goes up against his most powerful enemy yet: the Mandarin.

Lawden said there will likely be a big fight sequence with The Mandarin, the main villain. The Mandarin will be played by Ben Kingsley. According to Lawden, the big fight will have forty different iron man suits! The Mandarin wants to bring down the American government and kill the president, but there will be an incredible rescue! Lawden spills more very special news by saying, “…the President and his men and staff – get sucked out of the plane, and Iron Man rescues them by forming this amazing human chain in the sky.” Iron Man may have a rooftop house that he builds to store all his Iron Man suits, and it may get attacked by The Mandarin.

iron man 3

Gwyneth Paltrow will return as Pepper Potts in Iron Man 3! Tony Stark’s relationship with Potts is strong and will get stronger throughout the movie. If you look at the trailer, you will notice one scene where Potts is in metal restraints, and before that a mystery person in a suit grabs her while she is in bed sleeping with Stark. What will happen to Pepper?

Rumor is that Stark will meet an old friend, Maya Hansen, who is played by Rebecca Hall.  The only news about Hansen is she is a biologist who specialized in Nano-technology.

The director for this much anticipated movie is non other than Shane Black. Considered one of the most pioneer screenwriters of the action genre, he is most well known for the movies: Lethal Weapon and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.

Stunt performer, Lawden, tells us more saying how Stark undergoes biological changes; changes that allow him to operate forty mechanized suits all at once.

Is all of what Andrew Lawden said true? If Pepper be captured, will she be saved? What is with the forty suits?

“Gangnam Style” Beat “Baby”?

Justin Bieber’s song “Baby” went sailing when it first came out in 2010, and in the mean time, his career went as well as his song. Now the song is just over 803 million views, it was the most-watched video on YouTube. Just when you think no one can beat Bieber’s amazing amount of views, PSY’s song “Gangnam Style” flew past the song “Baby” and got an incredible 805 million views. Now “Gangnam Style” took “Baby”’s title of being the most-watched YouTube video of all time. Yes, America has finally reached that point of where we like foreign music better than our own. Most of us have no idea of what PSY is saying in the song, but we are still thrilled by it.

Due to college classes, I may not be able to post as much as I want to, but I will try to post as much as I can.

Thor: The Dark World–Information and Rumors!

*Warning, may be some spoilers!*

Thor the dark world

That’s right everyone! Thor: The Dark World is coming out on November 8th of 2013. After the excitement of The Avengers, many people are anticipating what the outcome of Thor will be! Stunt Performer, James Grogan, spilled the beans by telling the media that Thor will be battling the Dark Elves.

As for the leader of the Dark Elves, Malekith, will be played by Christopher Eccleston. Probably his bigger roles before this would be either G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra (playing McCullen/Destro), or Doctor Who (playing the ninth doctor). Will Eccleston be a good candidate for a villain?

Natalie Portman will be coming back as Jane Foster. Rumor has it that Thor will reunite with Jane, but she will be possessed by a dark spirit which is connected to the Dark Elves. Grogan, the stunt performer also said that the Dark Elves attack Asgard, so Thor has to rebuild his kingdom and put together an army to defeat the Dark Elves. But the only person who can cross over to the Dark World is Loki (who is locked up in prison).

thor the dark world2

There are hopes that Sif and The Warriors Three will return and help Thor battle the Elves. And who knew Rene Russo, Frigga, will also be joining in this sequel? It was said that her role was supposed to be bigger in the first Thor, but hopefully Frigga’s relationship between Thor and Loki will be explored a little more than last time. As if James Grogan didn’t spill enough already, he also added in that Frigga might be killed by the Dark Elves, and Thor’s mission to defeat the Elves, may become more as a vengeance.

With the help of James Grogan, fans of Thor, got some very valuable spoiler information. Is all of what James Grogan said true? Will Loki lay down his anger to help his brother defend Asgard? What do you think of this rumored story plot? Did you imagine it different? Comment down below what you think!
